Have you ever witnessed a heated argument over something that seemed so trivial and insignificant that you couldn’t help but shake your head in disbelief?
We’ve all seen it before — people digging in their heels over a hill that’s so petty, silly, and meaningless that it’s hard to understand why they’re willing to die on it. Here are many of those never-ending arguments recently discussed in an online forum.
1 Over or Under?
Some folks believe the paper should hang over the roll, while others swear by the under method. I’m an “over” person — it feels more natural. Plus, tearing off a clean sheet without spinning the roll like a roulette wheel is more effortless. But to each their own, right?
2 Cereal Killer
Another hotly debated topic in the world of breakfast is whether you should pour milk or cereal into the bowl first. Some folks argue that pouring cereal first allows for better portion control, while others insist milk should go first to prevent splashing and spillage. I’m team cereal first. I like to see how much cereal I have before adding the milk.
3 Pizza Toppings
Ah, the age-old question — does pineapple belong on pizza? Some folks are all for it, arguing that the sweet and tangy fruit contrasts the salty and savory flavors of the cheese and toppings.
Others find the idea of fruit on a pizza an abomination and refuse to go anywhere near it. So why are anchovies, mushrooms, and pineapple even toppings?
To fridge or not to fridge, that is the question. Some swear by storing ketchup in the fridge, while others think that’s just plain crazy and opt for the pantry. It’s a matter of preference and how often you use it.
If you’re a ketchup fanatic and use it on everything, the pantry might be the way to go. But if you’re a more casual ketchup user, refrigeration could help keep it fresher for longer.
Speaking of ketchup, those science guys went on ahead and decided that a tomato is a fruit. Nope, no way. It’s for cooking, for making great stews — no way that is a fruit. I believe that tomatoes are veggies, end of the story.
6 Dishwasher Loading
It’s like a game of Tetris, trying to cram everything in. Some people want to fit in as much as possible, and others want a more tiresome, systematic approach that takes time.
Some say people should load the dishwasher with precision and care, with dishes and utensils placed in specific areas to maximize cleaning, prevent damage, and optimize space.
7 Wet Fish
This is a hill that many fish enthusiasts will die on — if a fish in the water is wet. One side argues that “wet” refers to a surface being covered in water, and since the fish is already in water, it cannot be considered wet.
The other side, who believe that a fish in the water is indeed wet, argues that “wet” can also refer to the sensation of being in contact with water.
8 Toothpaste Trouble
Save the toothpaste and squeeze it from the bottom. But can you ever truly get all the paste out of a tube? Just squeeze it out later when there’s less paste — so much pressure over nothing.
9 Using A Bathmat
Countless people say they want to get dry before they get to the floor, and the floor is quite dirty, so they hop onto the mat before they put something on. But a bathmat gets dirty over time and is probably even dirtier. So are they defeating the purpose?
10 It’s “I COULDN’T care less.”
Sometimes you just want to rip your hair out listening to someone say the opposite of what they’re trying to say. Enormity does not mean enormous; it means shockingly evil. Yes, we are the grammar police. “I could care less” means that you do care.
11 Salting The Dish
Adding salt to your food before you taste it is like playing a game of culinary roulette. Some say it’s the key to perfectly seasoning your dish. In contrast, others argue it’s a reckless approach that can lead to an overly salty or unbalanced flavor.
Those who advocate for pre-salting say it allows the salt to penetrate the food and evenly distribute throughout the dish, resulting in a more flavorful end product.
12 Drop The Soap
With personal hygiene in the shower, the bar soap vs. body wash debate has been going on for ages. Body wash advocates think the convenience and efficiency of body wash make it the obvious choice.
In contrast, others argue that the old-fashioned bar soap is tried and true. Body wash supporters say it’s easier to lather up and spreads more evenly, leaving you feeling clean and refreshed without the slimy residue of bar soap.
13 High-Intensity Discharge Lights Should Be Illegal
It’s late evening; you’re driving home and exhausted already. You look forward to parking in the driveway and kicking off your clothes to a warm shower and bedtime.
Another car drives up behind you with the brightest headlights you’ve ever seen, illuminating the entire inside of your vehicle. If only there were a shotgun beside you.
14 “Should Of”
A couple of folks argue that “should of” is correct. It’s not, and English speakers are becoming enraged. You should of listened to them the first time they said it. They repeat, “Should of’ is not, and has never been a grammatically correct phrase. It’s ‘should have.”
15 Self-Plagiarism Is Stupid
Self-plagiarism is an actual thing. According to internet sources, it happens when you reuse your own specific wording and ideas from work that you have previously submitted.
Many academics may not agree with this, but one contributor thinks, “Self-plagiarism is stupid and should not be a form of plagiarism.”

Fargo, North Dakota, is somewhere I will never visit again. The food is delicious, especially the wild rice soup, but Red River Zoo gives me the creeps.
