Things in Tofino can move slowly at times, and the arrival of the Surf Grove campground is no exception. It took two decades for a new campground to open, but it’s been well worth the wait. Surf Grove is the latest and best innovation in camping, located atop a previous campsite that had fallen into disrepair. Camping here is a delight because of new amenities such as contemporary washrooms, well-spaced grounds, and well-designed common areas.

The Pacific Sands Beach Resort, Long Beach Lodge, and Cox Bay Beach Resort are all close by. A short boardwalk leads to Cox Bay Beach which is one of the best beaches in Tofino. Surf Grove provides 190 campsites with water, sewer, and power that can be reserved online in advance. In addition, in 2021, sites with RVs that are ready to go will be available, as will sites solely for tents.

If you don’t feel like cooking, you can simply walk down the beach to The Great Room at Long Beach Lodge or to the Surfside Grill at Pacific Sands Beach Resort to enjoy a meal. Walking along Cox Bay Beach is perfect in the evenings at sunset or to enjoy a quiet morning before locals and tourists alike descend onto the beach.
