But unfortunately, some celebrities’ vacations took a terrifying turn when they came close to losing their lives. From natural disasters to near-fatal accidents, these twelve celebrities faced life-threatening situations while on holiday.
1. Benedict Cumberbatch
Benedict Cumberbatch had a close call in South Africa in 2005. He and two friends were driving near Durban when they had a flat tire, leading to them being approached by six armed robbers who robbed, tied up, and threw them into the back of a car.
Cumberbatch was eventually thrown into the trunk and feared for his life. However, the robbers eventually dumped the group unharmed on the side of the road.

2. Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway faced a dangerous situation in 2014 while on vacation in Hawaii. She was caught in a riptide while swimming and would have drowned without a surfer who came to her aid. Despite suffering scrapes and cuts from the coral reef, she was eventually taken back to shore and survived the incident.
3. Chris Hemsworth
Chris Hemsworth’s vacation to the Himalayas with his wife took a dangerous turn. At high altitudes, he experienced the effects of thin air, becoming irrational, talking to dogs, and acting like a child.
Finally, his wife noticed he wasn’t getting enough oxygen and alerted the guides, who acted quickly to adjust his oxygen levels and bring him down the mountain. It was later revealed that another day at that altitude could have resulted in oxygen deprivation and death.
4. Travis Barker
Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein were part of the music group “TRV$DJAM” on a charter flight as part of their tour. Unfortunately, the plane crashed, and four out of six people, including pilots and two others, lost their lives.
Travis Barker was left with second-degree burns on 2/3 of his body. Adam Goldstein suffered injuries but later overdosed on the drugs he was given for his injuries and cocaine.
5. Jessica Lange
Jessica Lange’s relaxing vacation turned dangerous when she fell at her cabin in Minnesota. The 60-year-old actress reached for a handrail, slipped, and sustained injuries, including a cut on her forehead, bruises on her ribs, and a broken collarbone. Yet, despite her age, she showed remarkable resilience and was released from the hospital soon after.
6. Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens, a renowned writer, went on a wild vacation to France with a younger female friend after leaving his wife and ten children. On their return trip, the train he was on – almost met disaster when workers repairing a bridge ahead caused the train to crash, killing 40 people except for Dickens, who survived.
7. Justin Theroux
In 2015, Justin Theroux went on a honeymoon trip to Bora Bora with his wife, Jennifer Aniston. While scuba diving, Theroux’s oxygen tank ran low. He signaled for help from his instructor, but the instructor ignored him.
His friend eventually noticed the low oxygen levels and got the instructor to provide an emergency tank. Theroux was safely taken to the surface but was angry with the instructor for neglecting him.
8. Bono
Irish singer-songwriter Bono from U-2 survived a close call in a plane incident where the rear door of the aircraft he was traveling in from Dublin to Berlin came off during the flight. The pilot made an emergency landing, and everyone, including Bono and four friends, survived without injury.
9. Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan contracted Chikungunya Virus while visiting French Polynesia. The virus, carried by mosquitoes, can cause joint pain for years, and there is no known cure. However, she was able to recover from the illness after rest.
10. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger had a skiing accident in 2006 at Sun Valley ski resort in Idaho, where he broke his femur after tripping over his ski pole on a challenging run. The run was later renamed “Arnold’s Run” in his honor.
11. Michael Schumacher
In 2013, Michael Schumacher was involved in a ski accident in the French Alps. He bumped his head against a rock and suffered severe head injuries. He was placed in a medically-induced coma for several months and has since undergone extensive rehabilitation. His family discusses him in the 2021 Netflix documentary film Schumacher.

12. RJ Mitte
RJ Mitte, most famous for portraying Walter White Jr. in the popular TV series Breaking Bad, had a close brush with serious injury while on a deer hunting trip with his uncle in 2015.
The two were riding ATVs around Louisiana when Mitte’s ATV flipped over, putting him in danger of serious injury. He suffered scrapes and bruises but had no concussion or broken bones.
