Punta Maroma Beach: An Insider’s Guide to the Ultimate Vacation

Punta Maroma is a secluded, exclusive beach in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Known for its breathtaking views of the Caribbean, Punta Maroma is considered by many to be one of the best beaches in the world.

Visitors can enjoy activities such as snorkeling, particularly in the southernmost part of the beach.

Despite being home to some of the best resorts in the area, Punta Maroma has no public beach access points.

However, there are options for visiting without staying at a hotel. If you’re interested in visiting this tropical paradise, I’ve got all the information you need to know about Punta Maroma in the Riviera Maya.

How to get to Punta Maroma Beach

Punta Maroma sits between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen (about 30 minutes apart) and can only be reached by car or boat.

The most convenient way to get there is by driving or renting a car, but public transportation options such as a bus or cab from Playa del Carmen are also available.

If you choose to drive, take the main road 307 north for around 20 km (12 miles) and look for the road signs for Punta Maroma Beach.

Once you turn right off the highway, you will be directed straight to the beach. Parking can be found at the beach club or resorts upon arrival.

Alternatively, you can take a public bus from Playa del Carmen’s main bus station on Avenida Juarez and Highway 307, such as the regular colectivo to Cancun or Playa Express.

This is the most affordable option, but it does involve some walking.

The cost is around 50 pesos (about 3 dollars) each way, and it’s important to have small bills as drivers usually don’t have change.

Keep in mind that when you take a colectivo (local public transport), you will be dropped off on the side of the road, so a 30-minute walk to the beach is necessary.
